In April, 2003, international choreographer/dancer Mark Haim with composer/pianist Andre Gribou performed solo dances inspired by J.S Bach’s “Goldberg Variations” at AU, investigating the first Aria of Bach’s Goldberg Variation through movement, drawing, discussion and listening. Haim created dances for the opening aria and each of the thirty variations originally written for harpsichord. Haim has been commissioned to create new works for many dance companies in US, Europe and Asia among them the Nederlands Dans Theater, Ballet Frankfurt, the Joffrey II Dancers, the Jose Limon Dance Company, the Rotterdamse Dansgroep, the Silesian Dance Theater, the Companhia de Danca de Lisboa, CoDanceCo, the TRANS Dance Co., the Ballet Pacifica. He has re-staged his works on companies such as the Joffery Ballet, the Bat-Dor Dance Company of Israel, Djazzex and the Juilliard Dance Ensemble. He is recipient of numerous fellowships and grants, including NEA and NYFA fellowships.
