Ursula Payne and Wayne Smith

Dancers and choreographers Ursula Payne and Wayne Smith performed October 4th, 2002, and co-taught partnering, improvisation and dynamic modern dance classes at AU. Ms. Payne, described by critics as a knock-out dancer, spectacular and powerful, is dedicated to work portraying heartfelt, intelligent, and powerful images of Black women, speaking to the strength and resiliency of a woman’s spirit in an abstract nature. Mr. Smith’s improvisational skills and mercurial movement style have received national attention, using text, improvisation and dynamic movement to create wildly innovative solos involving audience participation.
